Side hustling is a trending topic that doesn’t seem to be slowing down. We’ve always known we shouldn’t put all of our eggs in one basket. Folks have been working second and third jobs to make ends meet for decades so the need for extra cash flow isn’t new.
However, the means by which we earn extra cash flow is changing. it’s never been as easy as it is now to side hustle and sometimes you don’t even need to leave your home.
The internet is revolutionizing the way we do business with each other and there are plenty of opportunities to add to your bottom line. And no, not all of them are scams! There are really some legitimate ways to make extra money that we wouldn’t have thought of even ten years ago.
If you’re struggling with debt, looking for ways to save, or want to get on the fast-track to financial freedom — I’d urge you to consider hustling alongside your 9 to 5. It doesn’t have to take up your entire weekend. Matter of fact, some of the side hustles we will discuss will only cost you a few hours of time each week.
So without further delay, I’m going to share with you six popular side hustle ideas to boost your cash flow.
6 Side-Hustle Ideas to Boost Your Cash Flow
1. Flip Things On eBay
eBay is still a booming business. According to eBay, mobile shopping has turned the platform into a $20 billion dollar industry. eBay users are performing 11 million searches per hour and the most popular categories include men and women’s fashion. That means athletic shoes, coats, handbags, boots, fine jewelry, and collectibles are big-ticket items.
eBay sellers find good stuff not only in thrift stores and consignment shops but also closeouts sales. That means if your local K-mart, Sears, etc is going out of business, you might be able to snag coats, jewelry, and other hot-ticket items at closeout prices. If you’ve ever considered flipping items on eBay, I can assure you that there is money to be made.
2. Consultant
People love to say they don’t have any skills or they are not good at anything, but if you’ve ever had a job, you’re skilled at something. Many entrepreneurs start out consulting on specific topics as a side gig. Their 9 to 5 skills translate into money outside of their day jobs.
Consultant roles are endless. Marketing consultants help other small businesses create marketing plans and build up their profile on the world web. Sales consultants help businesses and entrepreneurs find buying customers. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. You can consult on just about everything.
3. Freelance writer
I’ve done freelance writing on and off for the last two years and it’s a very easy way to boost your cash flow. The best part is that you don’t even have to be the best writer. Businesses are looking for someone who can communicate ideas and information to their audiences. You don’t have to be a literary scholar to do that.
Even though freelance writing in and of itself can be quite lucrative, there are some other skills you need to develop to be truly successful. You need to know how to pitch clients, manage your workload, and market.
It can be a headache trying to learn all of these things on your own. That’s exactly why I invested in a course created by a high-paid freelance writer in the personal finance and traveling industry. If you feel like you’ll need a little direction too, check out Holly Johnson’s course, Earn More Writing.

4. Affiliate Marketing
If you’re a blogger, you’ve probably heard of affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is where you recommend products or services for a referral fee. It’s a perfect side-hustle for bloggers especially if your audience needs specialized help or products to reach a goal.
However, what many of you don’t know is that you don’t have to be a blogger to recommend products and services to others. If you’re one of those folks on Instagram who has 50,000 followers, you are what’s considered an influencer.
If people follow you, they follow you because they think you’re interesting. They want to know all about your day. They love hearing about the things you love. If there is a product or service you use ALL THE TIME, see if there is an affiliate program for it.
Likewise, if you are an influencer, I’m sure your people will be willing to follow you where you go. Therefore, if you don’t have a blog, you should definitely consider creating one. I’ve written a detailed guide on how to start a blog on a budget.
Once you’ve done that, you can do even more as an affiliate marketer. In that case, I recommend you learning the ins and outs as they apply to affiliate marketing as a blogger in this course, Make Sense of Affiliate Marketing.
This course was created by a very successful millennial who has created a blogging empire worth one million dollars. And yes, I said millions and no, I ain’t lying.
5. Become an Instacart Shopper.
It seems like everyone is taking advantage of grocery delivery these days – including me! It’s affordable (it definitely helps keep your grocery budget in check) and convenient. And for the lucky people who live in big cities, just think about how much money you can earn in a weekend?
In my neighborhood alone, I’ve seen more than a handful of shoppers delivering groceries and household goods to neighbors. If you’re good at picking out produce, using apps, and you want to make extra money while you’re out and about, definitely consider shopping for other people. 6. Proofread.
Last, but not in any way least is proofreading. If you are the grammar police, you might enjoy making it official. People are out here paying really good money to have people proofread their blog posts, articles, e-books, books, and other written work.
If you think you might have what it takes to proofread articles or books, there’s a free webinar you can sign up for that will teach you what you need to know. It’s only forty-five minutes and it’s FREE. Sign up for your spot here.
