This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dollar General for IZEA Worldwide. All opinions are 100% mine.
Dollar General is often my go-to spot when I need to pick up household items, toiletries, and things for my kids. It’s conveniently located five minutes from my home and their prices never let me down.
Much to my chagrin, the majority of my neighborhood frequents our local Dollar General for the same reasons, often resulting in a longer wait at checkout.
So imagine my excitement when I heard about the new DG Go! App they just rolled out that allows you to check out from your phone?
Then imagine how I felt when I found out that this free service is currently only available in certain areas and my area was included? I felt pretty darn special, that’s how I felt.
Even though this feature hasn’t rolled out to the location five minutes from my house, I still decided to take a twenty-minute drive to see what the fuss was all about and to see if it could help me save more money on my typical trip than usual.
Before heading to the local Dollar General that offers these services I had to download the DG GO! App onto my smartphone. Once the app was downloaded, I created an account using my email address.
After logging into my DG GO! account, I was able to see where the nearest Dollar General that offered these services. After making sure it was available locally, I set up my payment information so I would be ready for checkout.
So, before I tell you all about how the DG Go! App works, first let me give you a brief run-down on what it is exactly. The DG Go! App makes shopping and checking out easier and quicker.
You never have to worry about whether or not you’re staying on budget because you’ll be able to scan items right into the app and get your running total, including taxes before you even check out! Also, you don’t have to worry about coupons.
Coupons are on the app, plus you may receive extra discounts that aren’t even listed in the store.
Right now DG Go! is only available in 258 checkout stores in select cities. While it wasn’t available at the Dollar General near my home, I was still able to drive within my city to check it out. An expansion of this feature is expected in 2019.
I have my fingers crossed that it will soon come to my local neighborhood Dollar General because I do plan to use it. I’ll tell you all the stuff I like about it but first, let’s break down how to use the DG Go! App in 5 easy steps…
- Sign into your account and make sure your payment information is entered.
- Go into the store and shop for the items you want to purchase.
- Scan each item individually into the phone app.
- Hit the checkout button at the bottom of the app to get the checkout QC code.
- Visit the DG Go! kiosk, scan the QC code on your phone and bag your items.
Here are a few technical things you should be aware of:
- You need to be in a store with DG GO! activated in order to use the app.
- You need to have Bluetooth and location services enabled on your device.
- You’ll need to access the internet via wireless or cellular.
- DG GO! currently supports IOS 10 (App Store) and above and Android 5.1 (Google Play Store) and above.
- Currently only accepts debit and credit cards if you want to check out through the app.
And that’s it! It’s really that easy. I didn’t have any trouble at all figuring out checkout as the cashier stayed close by and showed us what the final steps were.
I loved the fact that I could bypass a long checkout line and that my receipt was emailed straight to my email address. I also loved the fact that you receive discounts within the app simply for using the DG Go! App versus traditional checkout.
There was also a dollar off coupon available too. I was able to see my total and I didn’t go a cent over budget because I knew what I was spending the entire time I was shopping. I would say that Dollar General is onto something amazing and I can’t wait for expansion in 2019.
Have you tried the new DG GO! App?
